The history of Hotel Eydt Kirchheim
In the hands of the 5th generation
Our hotel´s history goes back to more than 160 years. In the year 1858 bought Katharina and Justus Eydt an old forester´s lodge at the edge of a little village called Kirchheim. This house was demolished and placed again in the middle of Kirchheim to create a inn.
On the picture can you see the new house that was build up by Justus Eydt in 1870.
“Just a moment”
Only 30 years later – in the year 1888 – was it time to give the inn to the next generation. That was Sophie and Ludwig (called Momentchen, which means just a moment, as he always replied that to guests). Unfortunatelly were the new business owners ill-fated, as Sophie died pretty only a few years after they have taken over the inn. Many years after this blow of fate Ludwig found new happiness in the love of his new wife Maria. Together did they change the name of the inn to “Gasthaus zum Bahnhof Ludwig Eydt”. You can see the original sign in our restaurant.
The 3rd generation takes over
The 3rd generation took over the business after Ludwig and Maria were running it for 44 years. Katharina and Otto added a butchery and an own butchery shop to the business. They also saw that there was a big business opportunity with guestrooms, thanks to the build highway. So they decided to build 20 guestrooms for travelers.
The inn became a hotel
After Otto died in 1967 was it now Wilma and Hans Heinrich (Henner) destiny to run the business. They decided together to change many things and by adding 60 new rooms they turned the inn into a hotel. So the Hotel Eydt Kirchheim was born.
160 years Hotel Eydt Kirchheim
In 1998 was the butchery given to daughter Sabine and her husband Jürgen. Furthermore, followed Pia and Ludwig (Lutz) the tradition and took over the hotel as the 5th generation. So now after more than 160 years is the hotel the middle of europe still family run. Since 2015 has the hotel and it rooms been renovated every year. We are looking forward to welcome our guests for the next 160 years.
